CHD Certification

Become a Certified Conscious Home Design Method™ Professional

Learn to see what makes a home work, and to show it to everyone else. A design methodology built on the science of human happiness, in two levels.

The Opportunity

Everyone can tell a home feels right. Almost no one can say why.

Clients see style, square footage, and price. What they cannot see is the reason one home lifts a family's days while another leaves important needs unmet, so they decide on the only terms visible to them.

Architects and designers deserve to be valued for their expertise. That happens when clients understand the why behind the work.

That gap is the opportunity. When you can name why a home works, evaluate it plainly, and show a client what would raise it, you move beyond taste and become trusted for judgment.

That skill is teachable. That is what certification is.

Professional perspective

A method practitioners take seriously.

Choosing a methodology to carry into your work deserves more than a promise. These readers speak to the value they found in the approach.

The CHD Score

One number that makes the invisible visible.

At the center of certification is the CHD Score, a structured way to evaluate any home or floor plan against the four needs a home must serve: body, heart, mind, and spirit.

You'll learn to score a home, identify the specific gaps holding it back, and explain both in language any client immediately understands.

It works on a listing, a client's current home, a builder's stock plan, or a set of drawings in progress. Existing homes, new construction, and renovations can all be scored.

That gives you a concrete, valuable thing to offer in a first conversation: a structured evaluation that lets clients experience your expertise directly.

The Two Levels

Two credentials. One rigorous method.

Level 1

Ambassador

$395 · Open to anyone

For real estate professionals, life and wellness coaches, stagers, contractors, designers, architects, and anyone whose work brings them into homes and conversations about homes.

You'll learn to:

  • Evaluate any home or floor plan and give it a CHD Score
  • Ask the CHD interview questions that reveal whether a home fits the people in it
  • Identify the specific gaps keeping a home from supporting them
  • Recommend the changes that would raise the score
  • Use the Ambassador designation in your practice and marketing

When you refer a client to a Certified CHD Practitioner, you receive a referral commission under the program terms and stay in the relationship. If you hold Level 2, you carry the design work out yourself.

Enroll, Level 1

Level 2

Practitioner

$3,750 · Approximately 20 hours · For qualified design professionals

Full training in the Conscious Home Design Method™ for professionals who draw and develop floor plans for a living. It includes everything in Level 1, including the CHD Score.

You'll learn to:

  • Run a consultation that surfaces what clients want but cannot articulate
  • Design for body, heart, mind, and spirit
  • Identify the spaces a client's life asks for beyond the standard room list
  • Map relationships between spaces: togetherness, retreat, and flow
  • Produce a HomePrint™, the document every drawing answers to
  • Present the method so clients understand the value behind the work
Apply, Level 2

How the Two Levels Work Together

One ecosystem. Two ways in.

Ambassadors are everywhere homes are discussed: showings, listings, consultations, coaching sessions, and job sites. They're trained to recognize when a home is not serving the people in it and to explain why.

Practitioners are the ones who can carry the design work forward.

When an Ambassador finds an opportunity beyond their scope, they refer it to a Certified Practitioner and receive a commission under the program terms. The client receives support they may not have known to ask for. The Practitioner receives a lead that already understands the value of the method.

The network works because each role makes the other more useful.

How Level 2 Works

You'll finish it having actually done it.

This is not a video course you watch and forget. You complete the certification by running the method on a real home.

  1. 01

    The foundation

Read Conscious Home Design, in book or audiobook form, for the thinking behind the method.

  2. 02

    The workshop

Work through the training videos and worksheets, applied to a real project: your own home or a client's, paid or unpaid.

  3. 03

    The design

Develop the home you worked through with schematics, space planning, circulation diagrams, and a furniture plan.

  4. 04

    The critique

Present your work and receive direct feedback. This is where the method becomes yours.

You finish with a completed project designed the CHD way, and the judgment to do it again on your own.

Who Qualifies for Level 2

Certification is limited, on purpose.

To enroll in Level 2, you must be a Licensed Architect, AIBD certified, or a graduate of an architecture degree program. Licensure is not required for architecture-degree graduates.

Other professionals with extensive relevant experience are considered case by case.

The certification teaches the Conscious Home Design Method™, not building science, codes, or zoning. Those remain the foundation of responsible design service, and CHD assumes you already have them. The prerequisite exists so that everyone carrying this certification is qualified to guide a project toward a better fit for the people who will live in it.

Not eligible yet? Level 1 Ambassador is open to everyone, and Ambassadors refer design work to Certified Practitioners.

What Certified Practitioners Receive

Support for the work as it deepens.

Ongoing support on your projects as you practice and refine your own application of the method.

The right to use CHD content and materials with your own clients.

Referred work from Level 1 Ambassadors in your area and, when appropriate, overflow projects from Talor's own practice.

An optional directory listing, where homeowners and Ambassadors can find the Certified Practitioner nearest them.

The certification mark for use on your work and in your marketing.

Opportunities for experienced Practitioners to be invited into paid coaching and teaching roles with future cohorts and the membership program.

Why It Works

A methodology, not a style.

Conscious Home Design draws on what the past century of research has established about how people live well: environmental psychology, behavioral flow, relationship and communication patterns, values-based prioritization, and the conditions that support health, connection, and personal growth.

Home design can benefit from that knowledge more directly. CHD is the bridge.

Because it is a method rather than a style, it works in any architecture: traditional, craftsman, modern, cottage, or anything else your clients love. The architecture changes. The feeling never does.

Licensed Architect Talor Stewart

Who Leads It

Built by a practicing architect.

Talor Stewart is a Licensed Architect and the creator of the Conscious Home Design Method™, developed across 25+ years and more than 1,000 single and multifamily residences touched and impacted through design, consulting, project management, and renovation.

He is the author of Conscious Home Design, a #1 bestselling book in the United States and seven other countries.

Questions

Before you apply.

I am not an architect. Is Level 1 really for me?

Yes. If your work brings you into homes or conversations about them, the CHD Score gives you a structured way to add real value and a natural path to refer design work forward.

Do I need Level 1 before Level 2?

No. Level 2 includes everything in Level 1.

What if I do not meet the Level 2 requirements?

If you have substantial design experience outside the listed credentials, write to CHD. Those applications are reviewed individually. Otherwise, Level 1 is open to you now.

How is it delivered, and how long does it take?

Level 2 is approximately 20 hours: about 10 hours of curriculum and about 10 hours developing a project and taking it through critique. Contact CHD for the current format and schedule. Level 1 timing is also confirmed before enrollment.

Do I have to have a client to complete Level 2?

No. You may run the method on your own home or an unpaid project. It needs to be a real home and a real design.

Can I use the certification in my marketing?

Yes. Both levels carry a designation for your materials. Level 2 also includes the certification mark for use on your work and an optional directory listing.

What if I want to refer work rather than do it myself?

That is the intended path for most Ambassadors. You identify the opportunity, a Certified Practitioner carries out the design work, and you stay in the relationship.

Learn to see it. Then show everyone else.
